i rarely use the FeiYu WG, but again its always nice option to have. I have heard talk of an improved Karma grip with a joystick
Im awaiting delivery of a Removu K1 for testing and review - if its anything like the Removu S1, should be pretty sweet too!

features missing in 5 - still missing in 6?

I am using the gopro professionally; I started with the Hero3 then moved to 3+, 4, 4+ and now 5.
I record short (3 min) clips with the gopro (1080,60fps) then I hook the camera to a big TV (via miniusb - hero3 - or micro hdmi for the others) and I start to playback the clips (in front of the students). During the playback I use the camera controls and menu to play, pause, increase the play speed (2x, 4x, 8x) and decrease/slow motion the play speed (2x, 4x, 8x).
When I moved from the hero 4+ Black to Hero 5 I was shocked to notice that the decrease/slow motion playback mode does not exist anymore. During past month I have installed all the updates hoping this playback mode will be back with no luck.
Another annoying thing is that the menu navigation and camera reaction are SLOW. I mean REALLY SLOW. To select the play button I have to cycle through the menu pressing 4 times the camera button. After pressing the button 4 times ( with a normal speed) sometimes it takes about 5 second for the camera to actually do it. This is also happening with the pause button. When I press pause, then play and then pause again (when I don't get that precise screen I was looking for and I just need to freeze the next possible second) it takes the camera 3 second to react and the next print screen is 4 seconds away form the first one. This issue combined with the lack of slow motion playback is killing me . . .
One more think, the hole menu is very poorly designed and very non intuitive. You have to endlessly cycle through lots of buttons to do even the basic actions.
The menu from Hero 4 and 4+ was just perfect - reacting very fast, all the most common actions were one click away, all the playback modes were there. . . I can't really understand why they have change it.
I have tried all the above actions with 3 different gorpro5, connected in both ways (microhdmi and usbC) and on different TVs. Allways with the same result.
My question is: did GP6 solved this issues? Can anyone that has a GP6 to try to test it? is the slow motion play back button back again?

Thanks for your help guys,

I went from the 4 silver to the 6 black so I won't have any anecdotes with the 5.

I have noticed a lot of photos are absolutely ruined by the Hero 6, even when using the flat color profile, sharp set to low. In bright sunlight with very bright colors on a flat background the colors get oversaturated. For instance, a bright yellow flower will come out horribly overexposed/saturated. Macro photos are definitely not the strong point, but I'm finding some ways around it by experimenting with ND filters, macro and polarized lenses.

Sound quality on the 6 is fairly poor. The wind noise reduction works well, but mutes everything so the camera might as well be in a waterproof housing covered in deadcat material. With the hero 4, I can use a direct USB to 3.5mm jack conversion, or even a bluetooth audio backpack that works amazingly well. The Hero 6 only has a giant brick of an adapter the also means you can't use gimbals, etc with it. I really think the camera developers look at audio as a second thought and only included it because someone made them. I feel like they would remove the audio capability completely and put in more image stuff so that you're forced to use an external mic + adapter if they thought they could get away with it. I wish there were a bluetooth + 3.5mm mic adapter backpack with housing options. I feel like this would do a lot more to solve the audio adapter issues while also removing popping from movement or shifting of the USB-C adapter cable. A simple firmware update to Karma grip could make it usable with this option and balance for the weight of the backpack accessory.

What I love is the EIS. It works amazingly well and blows the competition out of the water. Before the Hero6 released, I knew they had a new chip (GP1) but I was hoping for a new image sensor as well. Something that was capable of capturing 6k, or even just 4.5k but cropped to the other resolutions so that we could get the amazing stabilization at 4k60, etc. I'd like to see the EIS work at lower resolutions without cropping. 4K uses the full width of the sensor, but 2.7k or 1080 doesn't. I feel like EIS at lower resolution could just use more of the images sensor rather than crop the current image.

The dynamic range is also really really good compared to the Hero 4. When riding a motorcycle in the mountains through forested areas with low light shadows and bright rays of light laying across the road, the Hero 4 really struggled. The bright sections would be completely overexposed and washed out, even with ISO limited to the lowest it would go. The Hero 6 handles transitions from light to dark to light areas MUCH better. I've seen Hero 5 footage and it's even better than that as well. I feel like the Hero 6 doesn't do as well as the 4 or 5 in low light scenarios and I theorize that it's trying to saturate/contrast the image to try to capture colors that aren't there, so there's a lot more artifacting and blue saturation.

I think most of these can be fixed with future firmware updates as they fine tune a new chip and it's capabilities.

I been using gopro since the hero 4 silver to black to 4 to 5 to 6. One IMPORTANT thing that i am not happy about with the 6 is that its got 4k/60 and 1080/240 which is USELESS because no editor program recognizes the high frame rate files. Not studio not Adobe premiere Pro cc. So what we have here is 6 with SOME upgrades over the 5 my favs are audio, stabilizer. I am very disappointed that we cant even use the high FPS

I think GoPro missed the boat on the H6.

I will not be getting one after watching this video.

The quality just isn't there.

Ive also reviewed all three units.
While the Yi 4K+ is a very good camera, the GoPro and Sony are absolute beasts.
If you are after raw video quality then the optical image stabilisation and higher bitrate of the Sony will be for you.
If you are after almost as high a quality with the best menu system and the best versatility in the game, then GoPro is where its at. The image stabilisation, although digital, is fantastic - seriously, its rivals the Sony BOSS system. The quality, although a slightly lower bitrate then the Sony, is also brilliant - its hard to tell it apart from the Sony anyways.

Guess it comes down to what you are using the camera for and how you intend to mount (considering the different shapes of both units)

I have come to grips that GoPro doesn't have a perfect solution for my needs.

I never produce in larger than 1080P. So 2K is the max resolution that I would need. All these fancy high resolutions don't help me. Better dynamic range, better exposure control would be nice to have in the next model.

I need some real audio workflow solutions. With the H6 the audio is worse than the H5. This is unacceptable. This is a huge disappointment. Too many dongles and no new hardware from GoPro to support the capture of good quality sound in any capacity.

This camera requires me to use a Rode Microphone to capture the sound that I want.

I wouldn't use the GoPro, or any action camera, for any audio at all to be honest. Would rather a completely external solution, like a Zoom H4 etc.....

Remember GoPros' trademark its about the Fisheye wide angle everything else is a bonus. It's to capture everything around you keeping you in focus. why it's an Action camera. Ask yourself if you'reout on a vacation and water is of no interest are you better off getting a DSLR for 500.00 or a gopro for 500.00 for a few dollors more and going with not the best DLSR you can get a Hero session and DLSR for 500.00 and have both worlds/

That's been my contention forever.

But the videos suggest that they have now given you an approximation of narrower FOV via the zooming feature. Yes, of course it's digital so you lose some resolution, though GP has far more than you need for most purposes anyway.

Anybody out there have one and can comment on just how much closer to a "normal" lens FOV the 6 can get?

Agree on that statement.

Sometimes you just want to plug in a microphone or capture a timecode feed. Audio meters and gain control would be simple features to add to help with that workflow that the competition already has as a feature.
