sounds like you got a mono plug, I look at the leads of your products. how many rings are on each piece should be four not looking at a sterio

 

The jack on my mic has the sleeve, on ring, and the tip.. does this mean its mono or stereo? and I don't know how to check the adapter, which could be the problem...

 

if you can not tell a mono from stereo look at a photo of one???

see the ring thre is one for mono, two for stereo, you can see the metal area separated what I was getting at

Yeah, so the mic is definitely a stereo mic.. that means that the adapter isn't registering it as stereo, but the gopro is?

as you can see its not the actual gopro brand, but I liked it because of the 90* plug instead of the straight one...
