its not a clickbait title. It's not to start an argument. It is a genuine question!

GoPro is the first the oldest to come with an action cam; there are 11 main models on the market.
and still, its suffer from bugs that its embarrassing to see.
Such as overheating in a typical environment, crashing,
my personal problem is with GoPro labs

At the same time two other players in the market, insta 360 & dji ( i won their cameras also )
They are working just fine and are much younger and less experienced than GoPro.

to demonstrate as a parable, GoPro is like adobe premiere compare to davinci resolve
premiere is old editing software full of bugs that they never really fix them,
and DaVinci resolve is much younger and a lot better, with almost no bugs.

So why does GoPro suck? Why don't they fix their camera?

What was the first sport camera?

Image result for first action camera to hit the market

The "Sport" camera is the series production model of a prototype camera called Gelveta. The Gelveta was designed and built by A. O. Gelgar between 1934 and 1935. It is the earliest known production 35mm SLR camera ever to be built, but fewer than 320 examples were made.

Yep GoPro has started out in 2004, with te hero, hero + hero 1, Hero 2, Hero 3, Hero 3+ Hero4, Hero Session, Hero 5 session, Hero fusion, Hero 5, Hero 6, Hero fusion II, Hero 7 hero 8, Hero 9, Hero 10, Hero 11, Hero max, Hero bones, and not last Hero 11 mini, soon to be a Hero 12 and again the same troubles everyone will report, this is nothing new with gopro,

Oh forgot the Hero 2018 with firmware its a Hero 5 black same exact camera

You have $350-$550.00 camera, when does one ever learn,, stay tuned, we'll see.

The only reason I purchased a GoPro is to use it with GoPro Labs for long-term time-lapse.
I contacted their support, and after sending them a video that showed that it's not working,
they replaced my camera with a new one.
They promised me that it would work with the new camera.
And NO, it's still not working.
The problem has existed from the start, and they can't fix it. I find it embarrassing.

Well goprolabs is not the reasons people bought in on the camera. Maybe explain your problem here and maybe some can offer suggestions, gopro fix is firmware or replacement. They did what they were told,

You have to remember, GoPro Labs is like using beta software. It's all test firmware that is not guaranteed to work - more like open source firmware that's used 'at your own risk'. Some of the features, if reliable enough, may make it to the 'full release' for all consumers, but by using GoProLabs you are, in effect, a tester.

Overheating affects all cameras - no matter which manufacturer. The Action 2 suffers the same, for instance. Its inevitable considering the amount of power these chips are packing, and being stuffed into a small overall frame. It's a tough nut to crack, if you want such power in a small overall size, naturally there will be a sacrifice.

GoPro still set the benchmark at the end of the day. Are they the best? This is subjective and dependent upon your use case scenario. Personally, GoPro is no longer my main camera. Reliability is important to me and I didn't find enough of it with GoPro. Couple that with the poor support and the good competition, who I feel are being more innovative then GoPro, I found that other cameras work better for my intended uses. Doesn't make the GoPro a poor camera - just not suitable for me....

I've never had an overheating problem with my GoPro 3, 4, 6 and 7.
Perhaps it's the length of video clip you're recording? My GoPro 7 is mounted on outside of the rollcage tube so that it has a clear view of the scan that the camera takes in.
Off roading, most of my video clips are 1 minute to maybe 6 minutes. Once in great while an 8 minute video.

But I have to say, I don't seem to be able to record for more than about 8 minutes. Then the camera, or something, ends the recording.
Just thoughts,

I've never had an overheating problem with my GoPro 3, 4, 6 and 7.
They had less powerful chipsets in comparison. Now, the chipset is much more powerful, so more heat, but the camera body is still around the same size, yet sealed from water too. All add up to a heat dissipation nightmare!.....

Sorry to say the Hero 4 is by far was the best gopro made and then after all the issues came. 110 degree Fahrenheit e worked perfect, today its not about a chip, its. The actual. Components, and softwares as well, The chip is only part of the overheat issue. No one complains their smartphone for safety concerns shuts down due to overheating Lol, and not the chip, Simply lay the. Phone in direct Sun in 60 degrees behind a windshield On standby, the phone will. Overheat, shut down. And will not turn on till the sensor says. Its good to go, same goes for the cold, Prevention of overheating

Agree it works for. Some and others found a problem, they used the product thinking it can do non stop use, just how we say it in Life and becomes A major issue.

About why your video is stopping at an 8 minute mark, what sdxc card, are you doing not just a quick format , but in a computer a full format and not using smaller cap cards, if you are using a 256gb or higher card, , Just some thoughts out loud
