Hello all,

Apologies for my first post being a problem, but I've had many hours of trouble free recording from my GoPro Hero HD2 since I bought it, and obviously it's been used to capture some of those 'once in a lifetime' moments... this most recent was no exception.

I've been offroad exploring on my motorbike with my GoPro mounted to my helmet, as I have numerous times before, however upon returning home, eager to watch back the incredible ride I just had, and to my horror the main file, which is just shy of 4gb, is refusing to open, in anything, nor is the second part of said file, which is 1.6gb. Two other files that were on the memory card, one taken a few days ago, and one today, open and play just fine.

I've never had this problem before, so I'm asking for your help, what can I do? How can I restore/rescue the file to watch again?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I should also point out that the final file ended when the battery ran out and the GoPro powered off, I've had this happen before but still been able to watch the video afterwards.

Hi Oggy13,

Looks like the file got corrupted somehow (most probably due the battery death). This is a common problem that can be solved by repairing the file.

Simply get the file into MP4repair.org and diagnose it. It's free, fast, and all the process is done in your browser which means nothing gets installed in your computer. Best of luck!

Likely a corrupt file. Which really does suck.

GoPro really needs to invest in some better battery tech or some battery saving programming.

Have you tried opening it in another computer?

If the file is very important to you there are data recovery specialist that might be able to salvage the data for you. Of course it will cost money though.
