Repair Hero9 Black Videos after accidentally removing them from SD card

Good day,

I have done a search on the forum and have not quite found something that matches the issue that I am about to ask but feel free to point me in the right direction please.

I am asking for a friend who was trying to clear up space on her GoPro Hero 9 Black SD Card, she started a transfer under windows doing a basic cut and paste. Unfortunately the computer froze half way through and all the videos disappeared from the SD card (and never made it on the computer drive).

I have managed to recover all the files using Disk Drill and other recovery software. Unfortunately the files recovered, despite being the correct sizes and format (MP4) cannot be read by any players. I have tried all players and multiple computers with the correct codecs installed. The files have also got a _ in place of the G on the file names (picture below).

Using Wondershare Repair IT it appears all the meta data from these videos is gone. I have used the Advanced recovery feature (requires me to shoot a sample video with the same camera and upload it in the program). I am then able to repair these videos but none of the videos are being repaired correctly:
  • Sound is completely distorted
  • Videos are choppy/jerky and pretty much useless even for editing

If anyone has any suggestions it would be very much appreciated!

Thank you

This video may help, ms dos, the old school way.

Thank you Fish,

I have tried the method you have suggested. The result is the same unfortunately. The videos that come out after running the DOS command lines are distorted :(
