Yesterday, I was using my Hero 7 Black to do a 3 hour video to do a timelapse - Driving there no issue at all - recorded the whole time. Coming back - it would keep crapping out with Repairing File and would not even record. Very odd. Using the GoPro recommended sd card as well. Was plugged into power from my truck so battery was 100%.

Try doing a full format of your memory card in a PC or Mac. Not the quick format. I had my Hero 7 Black replaced because of odd things like that. Turned out a full format of the card was the real solution. Oh, and this card was supplied by GoPro at the time of purchase.

I contacted GoPro support - their tech said if you are running the camera on external power from a vehicle to take the battery out and run it wo the battery. It's odd because had no issue with the Hero 5 or 6 Black doing the same thing.

something to do with the newly chip and draw. gopro bat power drop causes the cam to shut off so we now must remove the bat to run longer times. to top it off add the external mic in to the external power you also have aud issues.

Wow! Very interesting but frustrating. I would worry about an inadvertent power interruption. Without the battery to carry you through seems like you’re trading one problem for another :(

The GPS is total junk on the Hero cameras - the app even makes it worse. Sucks that they put a feature with potential and it is so full of bugs and issues that it just is much easier to just leave it off.

GoPro knows a issue exists and it hardly gets addressed because they have no clue how to fix them, seems they are more interested in their sales then the actual camera. The GPS fails to work in a Windows platform of my machine, even on another windows machine. So lucky me I grab a Hero 6 and just use it for those occasions when the Hero 7 fails. Twice this happened but i was well prepared the next time. and verified i was correct, not us consumers but a gopro issue Lol.

When you want to use GPS, you turn it on in the settings but you want to wait til the GPS gets a lock before you start recording. Sometimes it gets a lock really quick, sometimes takes a while.

GPS retains for hours when you recently use it.. it will take longer when you pass the period left off for a good day or two...

So Yes some Users see this as an issue and some do not.

When I head out to a trip and use the camera to get GPS I must lock on outdoors and before I go indoors.. Some closures you can get to capture GPS in a Plane, and that can take a good 15 minutes to lock on.

Well I'll throw another if not repeated do not pull the camera off the charger while charging it can keep on the led light and people simply throw in the pocket not inspecting it, and the bat can get drained.

Yeah, its probably a hit and miss thing with the GPS. GoPro has a long way to go to really make this a feature that people will want to use. Its not a real big issue for me, I can live without it. Anyways, the app is so messed up that the only way that I can get the GPS stuff to work is to use the phone which I really don't like to use.

i dont use GPS feature at all, so i dont mind it being bugged or not. after few months of use i have noticed only one issue you guys mentioned, twice i grabbed my cam to quickly shoot something and it was completely drained. But it doesnt happen often, so its strange. but i got into habit of pulling the battery out when i know im not gonna need it for extended periods of time. Cant wait for summer, i have nice busy trip planned full of interesting places.

Yeah GPS is fun to use if you got something you like to share, other then that I know the places i gone to. once you put the guages on and best not to lose your original footage . overlaying a video and on line its toasted in.

using a ext battery, quick capture does not work.. For my own camera it works. for the person who posted it does not work so yep it can be noted as an issue he got a video of it not working..

Okay so the last two hiking trips my H7B has started to not turn on occasionally. I have to pull the battery before it will start up. Anyone else seen this problem? Also, don’t know if it’s related or not but turning on one time it said my SD card had an error and had to be formatted in order to be used. Well heck! I was *this* close to formatting it so I could at least use it but decided to power it off and put it back in my pocket. A bit later I decided to try it again and no error reported. I almost lost the whole day’s work for nothing.

Cheeky little thing. It almost pranked you.

But yes, i had this before. I always restart first to see if it solves the issue. Few times i had to pull out the battery to make it work, too.

During last weekend it stopped recording randomly, i didnt notice and i clicked upper button to stop recording (i had it on chest mount, didnt check the status) which in fact started another video, and continued to shoot for full hour until the battery died.

I dont shoot quick action so i dont realy care, but it is unfortunate.

No update was released in a long time now and i guess no more updates will come, as we know Gopro they are probably working 110% on Hero8 and already forgot that something like hero7 exists.
