Hi, I bought it to replace my old fuji waterproof camera, as I wanted the steady shots, and the 4k @ 60fps was too good.

Now this is my first go pro. Can I get screen and lens protectors for it? And will older models suck as the 5 fit? They look like the same design specs. Also has anyone any idea how long a battery lasts recording at 4k 60fps? And how much recording time I'd get running at that with a 128gb memory card.

Big thanks to anyone who can help school a GoPro newb.

Wow can't believe no one on here has any experience with go pros. Lol. Either that or people would rather be awkward then helpful.

You said you bought a GoPro 2 days ago.

It's unclear, but are you saying you have it now...if so then do as suggested.

It should be a bit worse than the Hero 6 since overclocked same processor and 1 gb additional ram.

@Furyan

Did the camera come with a Manual https://gopro.com/help/productmanuals

if not here it is. On or about pg 88 offers video info not what you're asking:

HERO6 Black Camera Battery-life
Video Mode Time (Minutes)
4K 60 70m
4K 30 95m
2.7K 120 60m
1440p60 75m
1080p240 60m
1080p120 65m
1080p60 100m
720p60 110m

but this is what you wanted correct?

Thanks. I'll Google the run times and mem usage for the 6 then.
Do you have your Hero 7 now, it's not clear from your posts.

Or is it just on order and you are waiting like many others?

The 7 has the same imaging chip as the 6. Same battery as the 6. Same ~case as the 6. Same GP1 processor, but running at a faster clock speed than the 6. An additional 1 gb of memory over the 6. More processing going on than the 6.

So...if you physically have one, you can try the simple clock test.

For now the best estimate may be a bit less than the 6.

But other things like shooting outdoors in the sun in a hot region at noon hence overheating shutdown if you run it continuously.

What kind of shooting do you do?

How many clips per shoot?

What modes for these clips?

How much playback and mode changing?

Good Luck to you and bye.

perhaps if you did some research your'd see the camera only hit global shops today. Not really very easy to know everything about it when its only been available for 12hrs

Furyan, if you want help, then please refrain from being sarcastic when offered realistic answers.

The fact is that you cannot tell how another person will use the battery in different temperature and shooting mode situations, nor can you totally estimate the idiosyncrasies of one particular unit.

So the clock test as suggested is your TRUE best way to find out a baseline. Going back to the 6 manual is a close guestimate. They already told you the best that they can.

Possibly he might be a one shot and gone questioner, dunno.

I call the basic situation "Facebook Polling". They demand instant answers. And they have many questions and don't want to answer many.

Mostly you see it on Social Media. Someone has a question and then if you are active you see them post it in multiple subforums on the same forum (cross posting), FB pages, reddit and so forth. Then they sit back and kinda take a poll of all of their various postings RE the same question.

If you are particularly knowledgeable you might then spot your suggestion being reposted by them. Hey guys what do you think of X idea? This can get irritating..since it means they are then having other groups "confirm" to them your shared advice. Or taking the idea as their own.

That's why I said "bye". Since I figure he'll either vanish then it is a true goodbye....or if he stays and wants to start asking more questions "What is the best mode for videos?" might come next. Well then the bye is from me to him as I won't be participating any longer.

Sometimes tech can have people getting lazy. If you want to create good pictures and videos it is going to take some time and effort and mistakes. Generally it is does not come from the Facebook Polling people as they just kinda flit around producing little. If he really has the camera or will soon in an hour or so he'll have his record time figured out to an extent.

hey smartass, you do realize that hero 7 is one week old, right? almost noone here has experience with it yet. Yesterday some of members here received theirs after preordering.
All you had to do was enter those same questions into google and you would get instant answers to all your questions, mainly about screenprotectors as they are the same as for 5 / 6 versions. Now tell me who is awkward ...

Well the thing is these children will starve when no one feeds them and when they come in and act their age they'll get what they deserve. the funny thing is Call their Bluff and let them prove us wrong.

Oh most this was offered in a Manual and that will be GoPro;s doing of leaving it out, and if not in the manual its on their site .

go figure

SJMARCY,
I couldn’t have said it better.
I have guys come on to my Fishing forum, ask a ton of questions... and then you answer all their questions.

Later you look at their ‘User stats’, come to see that they have never even come back to the forum to look if questions were answered.

Very irritating for people that value the sense of community in user group forums.
Anyway..... back to GoPro 7 discussions. (Mine is still in processing, and I could care less how long the battery lasts, because as always.... just purchase 2-3 batteries. 🤣
