Hi,
I bought it Oct 27, 2011 and it worked fine until I updated the firmware Nov 19, 2011. The next Monday, I was taking images in time lapse at one second intervals. It took 583 pictures and then quit. The card was not full and the battery was not dead. I restarted the time lapse, it took one picture normally and then all the remaining pictures were underexposed. I'm working with tech on this but wanted to give a heads up. Video and burst work fine.

Here are the pictures (resized)

Here is the exif data from the 2 (note exposure time - they were taken 1 second apart in broad daylight):

Well, I gave up. No word from technical support for 3 days. I have requested a refund from Amazon where I bought it. FWIW, they're sold out of Hero2's through January. They have a good idea, but it will never succeed without a working product and competent technical support. There's something seriously wrong with the Hero2's.

I don't know what's up, but

I don't know what's up, but there may be a whole batch out there with the same problem.

Here is the timeline with tech support (time are Pacific US):

22-Nov-2011 5:09 am: Initial support request.
22-Nov-2011 12:37 pm: Response requesting firmware version and "samples" (there's no way to attach a sample in the web form).
23-Nov-2011 7:46 am: I replied with firmware version and question about how to attach samples.
23-Nov-2011 8:13 am: I responded again with EXIF data.
25-Nov-2011 4:38 pm: No response from tech support for almost 3 days, I told them not to bother and that I would return the unit.
26-Nov-2011 2:29 pm: Response from tech support requesting that I create a YouTube video of the images and send them the link.
27-Nov-2011 6:52 am: I sent them a link to this thread.

I would try to hang in there

I would try to hang in there and wait for GoPro to provide an update/fix, as it really is a great camera. I'm sure they want to resolve any issues ASAP.

I don't want to return it,

I don't want to return it, but with 3 days between emails, this will take weeks just to get them enough information to start troubleshooting.

Well, I shipped it to them

After going back and forth for a week and a half, I shipped it out Wednesday the 7th. We'll see about turnaround - Newegg, Amazon and some of the local Best Buys are out of stock. Something I found sad/humorous: they wanted proof of purchase to make sure it is within the warranty period. It's a HERO2 guys!!! They've only been out 2 months. I think this pretty much sums things up:

It seems they confirmed the problem by removing the available firmware update. I'm trying to find an update to make my LCD bacpac work, but the only update available is explicitly noted not suited for Hero2: http://gopro.com/firmware

I got the replacement camera today

I sent the broken one to them on 12-7-11 regular mail (Alabama to California). It was delivered on Monday 12-12-11. I received an email confirming receipt from them the same day. I got the replacement camera today 12-16-11. Turnaround was fast. I am happy. :)
