Changing GoPro Connect to MTP after tearing down the Hero 8

I am tearing down a GoPro Hero 8 and installing it into a 3d printed enclosure for a university study. Is there anyway to change the Hero 8's USB connection from GoPro Connect to MTP after it is torn down and no longer has the rear LED screen? It is connected to a phone. I have looked into using QR codes to change the settings but so far have not seen a way to change the USB settings with the QR code, just the video settings.
