I have been trying to find an answer on The Internet but it appears no one seems to have one ready?

Which phones/devices are actually capable of reading H.265 codecs?

I have tried to export my H.265 clips from my GP11 with a Google Pixel 5 (which is fairly recent tech) and it shows a blackscreen during playback.

Obviously in the Quik App I can preview it just fine, because it's playing back a low-res form of the clip.

I know there are alternatives to convert stuff around, but that's what I paid top dollars for, to go home, export everything, convert everything down to H.264, lose all the Quik app Highlights and features that I also pay and then create a mediocre clip on Desktop. I wanna edit everything from my Phone straight off the cloud on the go!

If I wanted half-a**ed quality, I would have saved 80% and bought a second hand GP 10 or 9.

So please - if anyone knows an actual Phone brand/model that can actually read H.265 videos just fine, I'd be interested to know!

Feel free to get techy with me aka which chipsets or CPU series are capable of reading H.265.

Hello,

Last year, I was playing Hero 10 videos in 4K 60fps (H.265) with my old Oneplus 5T, which cannot support 120fps. Actually I am using Oneplus 10 Pro with both Hero 10 and Hero 11 Mini, playing 4K 120fps without problems, and no matter if I was playing through Quik app or phone player.
Did you tried VLC player for Android or any other third party player instead of native player?

Regards,

Luis.

It's worth noting that the ability to play H.265 videos is dependent on both the hardware and software capabilities of a phone. Therefore, it's possible that even if you own the latest phone, it may still struggle with H.265 videos and the reason could be an older chipset model or if the software isn't up to date. So it's highly advisable to get LTPO enabled screen that also has a good amount of refresh rate (120 Hz) that supports 4K video playback.

I actually have a OP5T myself, but as with every other phone in the house, all I get is a black screen. It doesnt matter which player I use, they all play the same black screen.

Since it's a hardware limitation, I dont think I can fix it on my current set up - however, I'm curious to know which phones are capable of reading 5k files without issue..

Hello,

I've done some tests and on OP5T I can play only 4K 60fps (8:7) videos, but black screen like you with 5,3K 30fps (8:7). With OP10PRO I can play every recorded video, 5,3K 30fps (8:7), 4K 60 fps (8:7) nd 4K 120fps (16:9) without problems.
