As a filmmaker and video editor myself, I've tried a lot of different software for editing my GoPro footage, and IMO, movavi.com is definitely a top pick for both beginners and pros. The user-friendly interface makes it super easy for newbies to get started, but it also has plenty of advanced features for more experienced editors. It supports a variety of file formats, including MP4 from your GoPro, and has a ton of tools for trimming, splitting, merging, and adding special effects to your videos. It's also a cool color correction tool that'll give your footage a professional look and feel. But to each their own, simply give it a shot; I think you'll love it!

It's always better to initiate with one of the trusted video editors to learn and explore its usability, and features and get thorough with it. I personally use PowerDirector & iMovie depending on the content and they both suffice my need to edit videos. Though, there are more such professional tools available that can be referred from .
True, iMovie is the best tool for beginners. However, I believe that Adobe Premiere Pro and Apple Final Cut Pro are two of the biggest names out there. But these are industry-standard software with advanced features that can feel a bit daunting to newcomers.
Davinci Resolve tool is also very much useful in terms of editing.
