Introduction

Go Pro Newb here. I just purchased a Go Pro Hero 5 Black. Might have screwed up seeing the suggestions here for the 6 due to the stabilization. I hope I do not regret it. Anyway-Have some trips coming up that I want to use it for and did not want to spend a lot because I am not sure I will like it.

Any accessory recs? I know I will want a spare battery. I am also thinking a hand grip and head strap. Thanks in advance?

you will most certainly need a backpack mount (around 3 dollars from china) and maybe that head strap / basepall cap mod to have it more comfy.

Hero 5 is amazing camera , but if you will do a lot of hiking / walking shots you will find that you need a motorized gimbal. thats why i switched to Hero 7 , it kind of eliminates that issue. 6 is inbetween 5 and 7 in regards to stabilization quality.

Try it for yourself and see if it is what you need for the job. if not , you can still sell it and invest in newer model with almost no loss.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually had not even come across a backpack mount before so that is a new one for me. There are so many options. I will say these certainly hold their value. I was surprised I had to pay so much for a camera that is 2-3 years old. I really did not want to pay for a 7 (the wife did not want me to buy a 5)but maybe if we like it enough we will upgrade.

Thanks again.

the GoPro is a great camera but only useful with the correct mounts.
What type of activities will you be doing or where are you thinking of mounting??

My favourite is the Chest Strap!

Good question. First let me tell you what I am not doing with it-Extreme sports, snowboarding, etc. We have a trip to the Dominican scheduled in June. I plan on snorkeling, hiking, maybe ATV's. Prior to that we are going to Las Vegas. I figured if I get one now, I can use it for both. Vegas would likely be cruising the strip, driving through the dessert and a day at the Grand Canyon.
