Quik is crap

It wont launch reliably. Not even close. I'm using a new Windows 10 laptop and the latest Quik download. On the Gopro support site it said something about trying Windows 8 compatibility mode... Are you kidding me !!?? If I launch Task Manager and then launch Quik, I see some Quik processes try to run and then see a status of "suspended" (!) and then all of the Quik processes disappear. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling... no help.

Same thing happens if I DO run in compatibility mode.

This whole Gopro experience has been a lot less than awesome so far....

++10 agreed Quick is a total POS. I did get to run by adding RAM. I have 12g now but that is still no excuse. Adding a new user to Win10 will help, another total PITA but at least it will launch. I really just use it to DL to a GoPro file in file manager (explore).
GOOD LUCK

Sad to say, there are too many variables in Windows and related hardware to narrow it down to a GoPro issue. I have had great luck with Quik in Windows 10, and IOS for that matter. It's stable and works as advertised.

I will be the first to admit, that my copy of windows has very few extras installed and is optimized for performance. But issues with Quik have been non existent. The GPS functionality is there as well. (although I want to be able to overly it over maps easier.

Knowing that you have another thread about GPS being crap as well, maybe you have another issue besides the GoPro products that are limiting your experience?

biff you have to trust me... I worked on big serious software projects for years and years... space shuttle, nasa, jpl, lots of foreign military. I know crap when I see it. The fix turned out to be... create a new admin user and reload Quik. Run it under THAT user. That is crazy. If I had treated my users that way, they would have nuked me. And rightly so.

I think the real problem was related to aborted logins and obsolete passwords. Quik got so tangled up it didn't know what it was doing. So it would suspend and abort. My question was "why do I have to LOGIN anyway ?" That should be optional, not mandatory.

The GPS thing was suggested to be that the Gopro could not pick up the GPS data because it was inside my car. Fair enough. I just did a test with windows down and sunroof open. It seemed to work fine. Finally.

there are plenty of other video editing softwares to choose from, from simple to advanced, no need to fixate on one software

I hear ya, sometimes it's best just not trying to explain and use it like you have once you found a way to work. You had a good explanation until you threw in the GPS bit. That must have been an odd coincidence that GPS started working when you opened windows, knowing that glass doesn't stop GPS signals. And that open or closed, side windows should not have stopped a signal coming from the sky anyway.

But like I said, maybe the planets aligned for you that one time. Glad it's working for you.
