Pen y Holt - An Abseil of a Buoy!

If you are a climber have you ever abseiled off a buoy? Yep that's right one of those flotation devices normally found anchored in the sea?

Well here's a Xmas offering and a wee video of a climb up the striking and photogenic Pen y Holt sea stack in Range West, Pembroke in Wales. Appearing to lean in all directions and situated on a friendly platform, Pen y Holt stack was first climbed in 1980 and offers ascents for most abilities. Along with the "adventurous" approach and excellent summit views, the stack makes a well worthwhile excursion for competent teams!

Range West is home to acres of superb climbing for all grades for which the lower grades are particularly well represented. However the Range is on MOD land and if you wish to climb here, you must attend a briefing at Castlemartin Army Camp for which the 2019 briefing dates should be released via the BMC and UKC very soon!

Anyway it was a grand day out so featuring the beautiful walk in (bikes highly recommended), fun but "adventurous" approach (low spring tides essential), bobbing seals, some eye-popping exposure and after the end credits that rather interesting abseil...

All constructive feedback welcome and hopefully it will brighten up your lunch or tea break with a brew and biscuit!

Merry Xmas!

Dave

Excellent vid again Dave really outstanding!
The landscape is breathtaking, the approach is a small adventure and the rock is extremely iconic.
As usual perfect prepared and filmed, all aspects of the climbing are good to see from many views so you take us on hands to climb with you.
Very good work from you end of course your team/mates.

It's a little bit strange, yesterday or the day before I thought- hmm long time that I saw a new vid from Dave, hopefully he is fine and still active and baam here is a new vid- maybe some kind of telephaty

Btw I was also active and if you like nature- of course you do- don't miss my first drone vid "3 Rivers" which shows the nature before my housdoor- and I am living in a city.
Anyway thanx for brighten up my morning!

Hey Rob many thanks as ever for taking the time to post your positive vibes as it is muchly appreciated!
I've had a look (and liked) your 3 rivers drone vid and congratulations as it is most excellent with lovely autumnal colours. You cannot beat some lovely aerial footage for that unique birds eye point of view!
Alas I could not use my Phantom 4 Pro on the Pen y Holt vid as Range West is on MOD land but the stack and geographical features would have looked great from the air.
Anyway keep up the good work and wishing you a very Merry Xmas and a rocking 2019! :-)
Cheers
Dave

Thanx Dave for your kind words!
Did you make some effort to get an exception approval for using drone in the area?
If it's military land I guess is hard/impossible to get one but nevermind your vid is also without drone shots excellent.
Merry Xmas and a happy New Year!

Ciao Rob
