Hi, bought my first Go Pro today, a Hero 3+ Black. What effect on the camera battery life does leaving the WiFi on when turning the camera off?

Reading the online manual (see below *, **)

There are no trouble shooting pages, and if need be you can go to Gopro.com, or google search, or other engine to find answers, without going to the provider, you are relying on others for a fix...

Wi-fi blue indicator pg 6 show the led where located, pg 11 defaults in off, and pg 28 set up menu.

To turn on Wi-Fi, two options:
option 1 hit the side button next to and on the side by the On/Off once, it goes solid blue for a few secs, than will blink every two seconds to indicate it is in an On state. Turn off by long pressing, will blink SEVEN times to indicate it is off, watch it for a good ten seconds to actually tell it is off.

Option 2. go through the mode and to setting, to camera settings to turn on Wi-Fi, either wireless remote, or gopro app, same procedure and light indications..

Trouble:
If Wi-Fi does not turn off, there was an incorrect sequence done, and it is ,forced on and not turning off, you then will have to remove the battery, to reset. This can be caused by closing down the gopro app, incorrectly, and not the Wi-Fi..

the same proceedures for GPH3+ or GPH3. read below, the manual to help further understand.
