btw, i have the older version of that remote and works with no issues, but the battery doesnt want to hold much charge after those years

More important for me to be able to see it without taking my eyes off what's on the road in front of me. To reach with hand is nothing as I'm flicking visor up and down all the time.

Reading the instruction book and fiddling, I have decided I am confused. I thought the Remote could power up the GoPro. I don't seem to be able to. However, once both are up and paired, powering down the remote will power down the GoPro (which is good). Did I misunderstand ?

Powering up the GoPro would mean the wifi connection has to remain on all the time - your GoPro would probably lose battery power by the time you wanted to power it up! Hence the SR can be used to power down, but I wouldn't recommend leaving it in that state for long periods so you can power up. Remember the SR is a rather old accessory - they should really incorporate Bluetooth (like they have with the GoPro App) so that it can be used to power up etc without losing much battery power, considering the power requirements are much less.......

@Kim F you have a Hero 7 Black, use Voice command Wake up, the battery will not drain down. If you bench test. turn on VC wake up say gopro turn off and come back a few hours later, and say gopro turn on. your battery life will be fine. wi-fi will shut down and be on stand by for 8 hours then may turn enterly off, not drain and does not consume great power. that was what I thought.

no camera can be turned on unless t he camera has standby that will use Power. when you go away for a month I bet you leave your tv plugged in that consumes powe a WATT or two's worth (wink) your tv is on stand by not off

FISH

test out come back in a day with voice command on wake up and you will see a few percent dropped. Bench test. it

Fish is not correct. And i wish him luck yelling at camera at motorcycle speed any comprehensible commands.

Remote should start your camera as well, and the power drain is so little its not worth mentioning. yes it will deplete battery if left for long time but not in a day. (but i dont mean turned on for whole day but occasional shooting).

I have used my remote with 7 black while kayaking and it always turned on after i turned on my remote and also turned off with it.

So its something you are not doing correctly.

-Turn on your gopro and wifi
-make sure remote is successfuly paired and you can control the camera
-Turn off by holding the corresponding button on remote
-Now turn on the same way as you turned off - (hold for 5seconds)

Quick recording should work just as well by pressing the red record button on remote (if enabled in camera)

Another soggy motorcycle trip completed. Yes, the Remote does power up the GoPro as well as switching it off. We won't talk about how I managed to attach the camera to my harness, lens facing my body ! I blame the clunky firmware update ! Will post the link to the video shortly.
