GoPro Hero 4...Nothing but a nightmare so far.

Hi everyone
I'm Katie from England. I thought I'd treat myself to a GoPro Hero 4 (I don't know whether it's the silver or black... this wasn't explained to me in store).
When trying to 'pair' with my iPhone 7, I go to my GoPro to switch on wifi, which immediately switches itself off again when I exit the menu. So no hope of keeping wifi on the GoPro long enough to pair with the iPhone.
To switch the GoPro off, I hold down the off button (front of camera) for a while (it beeps a few times and then appears to be 'off'), however upon switching it back on, perhaps a few hours later, the previously fully charged battery is now flashing at me saying empty, with something next to it which says '2 hr 10'.
To make matters worse, I've just found out that after spending hundreds of pounds on this piece of *** that I can't even pair a selfie stick with a GoPro 4.
Will be taking it back to the store for a refund, absolute waste of money and piece of ****. Thanks for nothing apart from wasting my time and money, GoPro.

have you tried reading the instructions, because it really doesn't sound like you've done any research or even know about them. If you've got a screen on the back, its a silver, if not its a black. As for wifi you'll need to go into settings & tell it if you want to connect to the app or remote. Also the 2hr 10 is video space available on the SD card, nothing to do with the battery (again reading the instructions would of told you that)

sorry your not happy, but if you want a camera you can just take out of the box & use I don't think GoPro's for you anyway

First off Welcome to GoProForums, we are a family Orientated site.

Secondly Cussing, profanity is not tollerated at any Sort, you got a rant Please do so in a proper manner. caught my attention, no just see the frustration you are having and why I am here to enlighted more info than what @p fandango offered.

Thirdly you are again ranting, and asking for help in an Introduction section that can simply be moved to the Hero 4 camera section where this belongs, even better yet the trouble section where we the Staff had taken serious time to make things very easy for all to get help. we yes, you , me and all still are plug-n-play people never taking time out to simply read and learn. researching is KEY! So rather Punn and punish, lets try to work things out, what I am here for?

1 never let a Sales person sell you, they are there to offer advice, you walked in and walked out with a Hero 4, on the box the model number is written, and also by the way you described it, sounds like you got a hero 4 Black by telling us on the front of the camera it says 2 hr plus..

Hero 4 Black is

Hero 4 Silver

Not knowing what you were sold in hand , and the Boxes are clearly color coded, GoPro has made this very clear what model is what model? So I am sorry if you had no clue in hand what you bought without looking at the Box or more or less Sold, lets move on from not knowing and start reading?

Opening up the box you grabbed instructions a quick guide, if not head over to the stickies and find @Dr. Z excellent gathering threads. But that I am sorry, you must sign out in order to Find them it's a stupid rule this site has, all members can not see it till they reach a post limit, that I am sorry but let me point you to gopro.com/support and to the left side head to the Product manual and open Hero 4 black, or Silver, they both talk about the same exact thing, until you verify your model?

Now you have an Iphone, great I do to, I have an IOS Iphone 6 I do not like guessing so it is best to have offered way more info then we can absorb.

We have a troubleshoot section, a few paragraphs ago I mentioned that so here is a c/p so you can understand more.

Now by going with this thread/topic WI-fi is the issue and @IndigoKatie pressed buttons not know what she left on, the wi-fi draining the battery, lets try to get her up and running before she simply does the best thing ever returning the camera (sarcasm).

Go to the gopro.com/support/product hero 4 manual. or ask in the support Something I do all the time? (see Below)

That should get you going if asked. I am not here again Punning, I taken a few minutes of my time to help out, and if this does not work please do chime back and understanding your frustration. you may have calmed down but not knowing, best return and move on.

GoPro App Camera Connection Troubleshooting

What’s the issue?

The Wi-Fi network cannot be found in the mobile device or you get the "Connect Your Camera" / "Wi-Fi Network Not Connected" / "Connection Lost" message in the App.

Where does it apply?

•GoPro App
•HERO4
•HERO Session + HERO4 Session
•HERO+
•HERO3+
•HERO3

How to fix it

Forgot your password? Follow these instructions.

Having trouble getting connected? Follow the instructions for your camera model below:

HERO4 Black & Silver, HERO4 Session, HERO Session, HERO+ & HERO+ LCD:
If you're working with an iPhone or iPad, let's start by forgetting the bluetooth ID in the settings application on your iOS device. If by chance you have multiple devices with the same, make sure to delete all of them. Follow the instructions below:

1. iOS Only: Open the Settings application on your iOS device and navigate to the Bluetooth settings.

2. iOS Only: Select the information icon next to your GoPro and select "Forget this device". If by chance your GoPro is listed multiple times, make sure to delete all devices with the same name.

4. Select the "-" to delete the camera, then select the "Delete" button to remove the camera.

5. Now that you've deleted the device from the app and your iPhone's settings, you will need to pair your GoPro as a new device. Please follow these instructions:
•Open the GoPro App and select "Connect Your Camera".
•Press the "Add New" button.
•Select your camera model
•On the front of the camera, press the mode button until you see "Setup"
•Press the shutter button to select into the "Setup" Menu
•Press the shutter button to select Wi-Fi
•Press the mode button to scroll down to "GoPro App" then press the shutter button
•Press the "Continue" button in the app
•Select your camera from the list (e.g. GoPro 1411....)
•Select "Pair My Camera"
•Enter the PIN number that is listed on the camera's LCD Screen
•Connect to the cameras Wi-Fi network
6. If you still can't get connected we'd recommend trying a Wi-Fi Reset on your HERO4 or HERO+ camera. To reset the Wi-Fi on your device, follow these instructions:
HERO4 Black & Silver •Turn the camera ON.
•Press the mode button repeatedly on front of the camera until “Set Up” appears on the screen.
•Select the red shutter button on top of the camera.
•Press the mode button repeatedly on front of the camera until “Reset Cam” is highlighted.
•Press the mode button to select “Reset Wi-Fi”.
•Press the shutter button to select.
•Press the mode button to highlight “Reset”
•Press the shutter button to select.

HERO4 Session:
If the camera is unresponsive, you will need to reset the camera and re-enable Wi-Fi:
Part 1 - Reset the Camera: •Press and hold the shutter button for 8-10 seconds.
•Note: Resetting the camera does not reset the Wi-Fi
Part -2 Reset the Wi-Fi: •Press and hold the INFO/WI-FI button for 8-10 seconds; you will be prompted with "Reset Wi-Fi." The button can now be released.
•Press the INFO/WI-FI button once to highlight YES.
•Press the SHUTTER button once to select YES; the camera will prompt you that the reset has occurred, then turn off.
•Follow the pairing instructions here, to set up a new name and password during the GoPro App pairing process.

HERO+ & HERO+ LCD: •Turn the camera ON.
•Press the mode button repeatedly on front of the camera until “Set Up” appears on the screen.
•Select the shutter button on top of the camera.
•Select the shutter button to select into the Wireless menu.
•Press the mode button until "Reset Wi-Fi" is highlighted.
•Press the shutter button to select.
•Press the mode button to highlight “Reset”.
•Press the shutter button to select.

HERO3 & HERO3+: •Typically connection issues on the HERO3 or HERO3+ result from entering the wrong password. In order to get reconnected, please follow these instructions to reset the password on your camera: Password Reset Instructions.

Wi-Fi Network Can't be Found in Phone/Tablet:

If the camera's Wi-Fi network can't be found in the phone/tablet's wireless settings menu, follow these steps:
1.Turn off/on the phone/tablet's Wi-Fi.
2.Power off/on the camera.
3.Make sure the camera is in GoPro App or Phone/Tablet mode and that you see a Wi-Fi icon in the bottom-right corner of the camera's screen.
4.Open up the Wireless Settings on your device and try to connect to the Wi-Fi network with the phone/tablet.
5.If the network is not present in the phone/tablet's list, try another phone/table if possible.
6.Redo the software update.

Check your mobile device settings: 1.If you still can't get connected, close the GoPro App, forget the Wi-Fi network in your device's wireless network settings, and turn on Airplane mode on your device.
2.Also, turn off any Firewall apps, such as Droid Wall.
3.Next, try reconnecting to the Wi-Fi network and launch the GoPro App.
4.If you're able to connect to your camera, then this means that your device's APN settings are preventing the GoPro App from working on your device. Apps that affect data compression/transfer and your device's APN settings conflict with the GoPro App. Uninstall those APN/data compression apps to restore your APN settings to default, then the GoPro App should work with or without Airplane mode enabled.

Still having trouble connecting?
In order to assist you as quickly and efficiently as possible, it would be very helpful if you could provide us with the following information. We will gladly do everything we can to get you up and running with the GoPro App: •A brief description of what you have tried
