Default New User and my first video's are very choppy.. help please!

Hello everyone,

I bought a new GO PRO HERO camera with a lot of different mounts. I went fishing on Monday, had the resolution set to R5, definitely was set to video, have a LEXAR SDHC 8gb card with #4 and mounted it to my T-Top on the boat.

All the video's came out except the video jumps about every 2 seconds.

Every video I have seen posted doesn't have the 2 second jump. I have had different suggestions from running a #10 card however before I invest in another card, I want to know if anyone else has had this issue? The sound doesn't jump every 2 seconds... The sound is normal.

If you have any suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks much

Eric

Hi Eric and welcome to the site!

It sounds like you had the settings correct and there's definitely something not working properly. It has to be one or more of the following...

- SD card (either not fast enough, not 100% compatible with camera, or defective)
- Computer and/or video card not up to the task of playing HD video off the hard drive, SD card, and/or USB
- Camera is defective (unlikely but possible)

Try playing the video on a TV using the RCA/component cables supplied with the camera. If it plays smooth and everything looks good then the problem is definitely related to your computer/video card. Give that a shot when you have a chance and let us know how it looks.

Cheers,

Justin

Default Hi Eric, Any luck trying to

Hi Eric,

Any luck trying to play the videos on your TV?

I mentioned this in a thread in the SD forum, but figured I would also post it here so you and others can see it...

The minimum system requirements as published by GoPro are:

<ins>Windows-based computers</ins>
- Windows XP (Service Pack 2 or later)
- 3.2 GHz Pentium 4
- Direct X 9.0
- At least 1 GB of RAM (memory)
- Video card with at least 256MB of RAM

<ins>Mac OS-based computers</ins>
- Mac OS X v10.4.11
- 2.0 GHz Intel Core Duo
- At least 1 GB of RAM (memory)
- Video card with at least 128MB of RAM

* The above minimum requirements were taken from the instruction manual that came with my GoPro HD Hero camera. The minimum requirements listed on the GoPro website differ with regards to the RAM, Windows-based operating system, and Mac OS-based video card RAM.

Default new GP HD here too...choppy

I have been using an 8 GB ScanDisk Extreme III class 6 sd card. I also have a Kingston 32 GB class 4 that I have yet to try.

Computer is a Dell M90
Intel Core 2 CPU
T7200 @ 2ghz
998 MHz, 4g ram
Nvidia Quadro FX 512mb graphics card

Everything on the computer is a little choppy with the 8gb card. I don't think it's the computer. But maybe I'm wrong?

Thanks!

try your video on a tv as mentioned or on another computer
here is a neat trick I learned at adobe
the envelope the gopro saves the native mpeg file in is not completely compliant with all players and editors
down load the free software here
http://www.squared5.com/

open the gopo file and then save as, and rename the file
it rewrites the envelope
I could hardly edit gopro footage on my machine
this fixed it

Too bad this program is not written for Linux as well.

I wonder if there is any such recommended program that runs on the Linux Ubuntu Operating System?

Thanks.

- Apparently it is because your system does not meet minimum requirements . It seems that your CPU is not fast enough and/or doe not have enough system RAM or perhaps your VIDEO CARD do not meet the minimum specs either, or any combination of the above. The video player you are using could be the culprit also.

The minimum specs for Windows are:

System Requirements for GoPro 2D HD Playback—PC
• Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7
• 3.2 GHz Pentium 4 or faster
• DirectX 9.0c or later
• At least 1 GB of system RAM
• Video card with at least 128MB
of RAM

I was having the same problem with a less powerful laptop and that's the reason mine were also choppy. Then I played the very same video on a ,opre powerful desktop computer with a fast video card and a CPU with 4 GB RAM and then it looked fine.

Try doing that and if it plays back fine, then you'll know it's your computer's hardware.
