Alternate battery source

Hey,
If you have access to an USB port in a boat or motorcycle that you are using can the GoPro be plugged in to the port for continuous battery power? if this can be done do you leave the camera battery installed or remove it? Last question, does the camera draw enough battery usage that you would need to worry about it with starting the boat/bike later?

Thanks,
Sam

Sammiew,

Welcome to the forum. Check THIS ON THE GOPRO WEBSITE.

Also, see this battery eliminator which may help you achieve what you are wanting to do. In this case all you would need to add is a power source such as an external power bank for recharging phones. Just connect it to the cable. It is best to use a battery eliminator like this one to stay away from generating excess heat (a real problem) which may shut the camera down.

The battery draw when charging/running is 1 amp to 60 mA's depending on the source. So, the draw on your external battery would depend on how long you are connected to it with the camera running.

I am in no way associated with camdo.

Cheers,
Charlie

Ive tested the battery eliminator, which works great!
As noted above you cant record when connected to a camera, but you can record when connected to any other power source....

the camera will draw 1 amp an hour, it can drain the battery down the road, but am sure that will be like a few days if asked?

I keep my bat in and plug to a USB port. the camera will get warm to the touch, I also adjust the endless power, to endless and not 1, 2 minute auto off?

I found if I use my Wasabi Clutch, the USB icon comes on, it takes a longer time to get to record, then just using the actual battery.

hope this info helps out some

Thanks Fish,
What I am attempting to do is run my GoPro in my bass boat and try to run it from an external USB port that is mounted in the boat. That way hopefully I won't have to keep changing batteries. Just wondering if it would draw enough amps from the battery to give starting issues later. Also have two graphs running at the same time. Thanks again......

when we owned a Boat, we had a back up battery? You can use a powerbank10K will get you 10 hours.. make it a lil more portable. do not think it will draw any more than what a car radio will do?

Thanks Fishy,
My Humminbird electronics have a battery power level alarm to let you know when you battery has reached a certain level that was entered into the unit. I will use this to see if the power is drawing down to much. Thanks
