Computer does not recognize the camera after update

I updated my hero 3 silver edition last night and the camera itself is working just fine but now when I plug into the usb of my mac, the camera is not recognized. On one attempt, a alert came up stating that the device was drawing too much power and that usb was shutting down.

Anyone have this happen? How do I fix it?

Same exact problem

Same exact problem here.....rather frustrating.

Camera works properly, no issues. Both MAC and PC do NOT want to recognize the Hero when plugged in..

My problem is fixed. Here was

My problem is fixed. Here was my solution. This requires having a card reader for either Mac or PC.

1. Confirm your GoPro is on the most updated Firmware. (Either from looking at the versions.txt file on the MicroSD or by using the iPhone/Android App and checking the settings).

2. Use computer to format SD card. PC should be quick format to FAT32. Mac should use Disk Util and create 1 partition as MS-DOS(FAT)

3. Put SD card back in GoPro. It should give you "SD ERR". Go to settings and select Erase, All (Format)

4. GoPro should now read the card. Turn GoPro off. Plug Mini-USB into port and into computer. Red light should come on indicating charging. Hit the power button. You should now see the USB Symbol with the battery charging indicator and the GoPro should pop up on computer as external drive.

I think my initial problem was that I left the firmware update files on the SD card and did not re-format afterwards, and it would not read as external drive.

Hope this helps.

Canít do anything on it as it

Canít do anything on it as it will not power up and the "device" list in my laptop says there no drivers in the unrecognizable device. The OEM Drivers are gone.....It will be returned the store this evening.

Try this: turn your camera

Try this: turn your camera off, plug into USB, turn camera on. My computer won't recognize my cameras if they're plugged in while on, though it will charge them.

try different USB port

I was getting the same "too much power" error message. for me, I got it to work in the USB port directly from my laptop, but did not work from most other USB ports including keyboard, monitor, hub, etc...

i did not have to do a card formatting as mentioned before.

GoPro branded USB cable doesn't connect, Garmin cable does

Related, oddly, issue. My GoPro branded USB cable charges the device but doesn't connect as a USB drive. My Garmin branded cable, however, connects both for charging and as a drive device.

Interestingly, last week, it was the other way around.

I think I solved it.

I was running into the same problems, but instead of turning on my GoPro after plugging it in, I turned it on before I plugged it in. Now I am able to go into my GoPro's files and copy them to my hardrive
